Maggie Hilderbran ’15 and Suhani Gupta ’15 had a goal when they entered the UNCA Science Olympiad competition…they wanted to go to Raleigh. And in order to do that they had to win their division at the regional competition in Asheville. Maggie and Suhani entered in more than one science division but they were soon to find out just how good they were in the “Anatomy and Physiology” division. Ten WNC teams entered this division and after the scoring was completed – Maggie and Suhani learned that they were the top team and this would qualify them for the even tougher state-level Science Olympiad on the campus of North Carolina State University.
Forty-eight teams were in place to compete in the Anatomy & Physiology division on competition day in Raleigh. The teams were from all of the qualified high schools in North Carolina, public and private. The teams in this division had to take a written test of the knowledge and identification of human body systems. Team members in this division work together to answer the questions based on their collective knowledge of their subject.
Maggie and Suhani were prepared to take on the keen competition and were pleased to finish as medalists – a designation presented to the top ten teams in each division.
Congratulations Maggie and Suhani.
